AJ is a lifelong resident of the Central Coast! AJ attended Ventura’s public schools for his K-12 education before attending Ventura College where he earned his two AA degrees. AJ was previously elected to serve on the Ventura County Community College District Board of Trustees as a Student Trustee. AJ transferred to UC Santa Barbara where he attained a bachelor’s degree in Global Studies with a minor in Feminist Studies.
After completing his degree, AJ worked for the California State Assembly under then-Assemblymember Das Williams as a Field Representative, assisting the Ventura County community. While working as a Field Representative, AJ covered issues of local government, higher education, the environment, and other issues affecting the Central Coast community. Following his time in the Assembly, AJ currently works as a casual longshoreman at the Port of Hueneme and possess a substitute teaching credential.
AJ serves the Ventura County community by serving on different boards in the area. He currently serves as board member to the CAUSE Action Fund Board of Directors, Ventura County Democratic Party, and the California Democratic Party’s Executive Board. AJ is a founding board member of the Ventura Food Co-Op and served as President of the Greater Oxnard Organization of Democrats for two years.
AJ joined the Central Coast League of Conservation Voters to bring a young Latinx perspective to fighting climate change after spending days working outside during the Thomas Fire that affected the Central Coast community in December 2017. Supporting issues and candidates that will fight climate change is a priority for AJ.
