Joanna Kaufman is currently a land use planner at a private law firm. She grew up in the car-centric Inland Empire which inspired her professional pursuits. She firsthand experienced the impacts of living in a commuter community and believes everyone should have the ability to live close to where they work. Her passions lie with, sustainable transportation, affordable and livable housing options for all, ecological design, community building and civic innovation.
After being involved at the beginning of the Santa Barbara area DIY bicycle shop, Bicicentro, she finished her undergraduate degree in Community and Regional Development at UC Davis and Master's in City and Regional Planning from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Her other professional experiences include working as a public sector planner and a Program Director for a local organization promoting safe, sustainable, and equatable transportation options.
